What is a leased line?
A private fibre connection, just for your business.
A leased line is a dedicated fibre connection between your premises and the internet. Nobody else shares it, so the speed you pay for is the speed you get, all day, in both directions.
Broadband is shared with other users on the network and is usually much faster to download than upload. A leased line is different: it's uncontended, it's symmetrical, and it comes with a service level agreement (SLA) that sets out how quickly faults are fixed.
We design, install and support leased lines for offices, factories, warehouses, schools and multi-site businesses across Manchester, Bolton, Preston, Warrington and the rest of the North West. We work with several UK networks, so we can compare routes and prices for your exact address.
A leased line makes sense if…
- Your phones, cloud systems and video calls all run over one connection
- You upload a lot: backups, design files, video, CCTV or data
- Being offline stops sales, production or customer service
- You connect several sites or host services others rely on
- Your team has outgrown full fibre at busy times
Leased line vs broadband
Why a leased line feels so different.
Here's a 1Gbps leased line next to full fibre broadband. Both are fast to download. The difference is upload, sharing and what happens when something breaks.
Full fibre broadband
- Shared with other users on the network
- Speeds can vary at busy times
- Best-effort repairs on standard care
1Gbps leased line
- Dedicated to your business alone
- The same speed, all day, every day
- Fix times agreed in an SLA
What you get
Built to be relied on.
-
Symmetrical speeds
Upload as fast as you download, for cloud backups, video calls, VoIP and file sharing.
-
Uncontended
Your bandwidth is yours alone, so performance doesn't drop when the neighbours get busy.
-
SLA & fix times
Agreed fix times and service levels, so you know what happens if there's ever a fault.
-
Scales with you
Start at the bandwidth you need today and increase it later, often without new hardware or a new installation.
-
Static IP blocks
Static IP addresses included, with larger blocks available for servers, VPNs and hosted services.
-
Resilience options
Add full fibre or 4G/5G as automatic backup, or a second line on a separate route for maximum uptime.

How installation works
A realistic plan from day one.
Leased lines take longer to install than broadband, often a few months, because new fibre may need to be built to your building. We give you an honest timeline and keep you updated all the way.
Survey & quote
We compare networks for your address and explain any excess construction charges before you sign anything.
Order & permissions
We manage the order, the site survey and any landlord or wayleave permissions.
Build & install
Fibre is built to your premises, the equipment is fitted and your router is configured and tested.
Live & monitored
Your line goes live and is monitored, with one local team to call for anything at all.

FAQs
Leased line questions.
Can't see your question? Ask us. A real person will answer.
What is a leased line?
A leased line is a dedicated, uncontended fibre connection reserved for your business. It has the same upload and download speed and comes with an SLA that sets out fix times.
How long does a leased line take to install?
Usually longer than broadband, often a few months, because new fibre and equipment may need to be installed to your premises. Timescales depend on your building and route. We'll give you a realistic estimate at the quote stage and can provide full fibre or 4G/5G in the meantime.
What are excess construction charges?
If significant new building work is needed to bring fibre to your premises, the network may charge extra. These are called excess construction charges (ECCs). We tell you about any ECCs before you commit, so there are no surprises.
What does uncontended mean?
Broadband is contended: your connection is shared with other users, so speeds can drop at busy times. A leased line is uncontended, which means the bandwidth is reserved for your business only.
What's the difference between bearer and bandwidth?
The bearer is the maximum capacity of the physical connection (for example 1Gbps). The bandwidth is the speed you choose to use on it (for example 200Mbps). A bigger bearer lets you increase your bandwidth later without a new installation.
Do I need a backup connection?
A leased line is very reliable, but cables can still be damaged. If you can't afford to be offline, add a full fibre or 4G/5G backup that takes over automatically, or a second leased line on a separate route.
Is a leased line worth it compared with full fibre?
Full fibre is excellent value and suits most smaller businesses. A leased line is worth it when you need fast uploads, guaranteed performance, an SLA or you simply can't be offline. We'll tell you honestly which fits. Try our bandwidth estimator for a quick guide.
